What the hell is a VARSITY READER?

Someone who spent their entire childhood poring over books indoors…because they sucked at every single sport. Recreational sports weren’t for me—so I consider myself a varsity reader.

Who are you?

I’m Julia, a brand strategist and content creator based in NYC. I partner with clients to tell standout stories—whether they’re an executive changing careers or a CPG brand looking to reach a new audience across platforms. You can find me on Instagram and TikTok @smarterinasec.

Each day, I share ways for my audience to level up through career tips, product recs, curated articles, and so much more.

I launched VARSITY READER a few months ago, when I was craving a way to go deeper on the topics I discuss every day on social. My first job was a book review columnist for my local newspaper at 14 (a true dream), so writing has always felt like a fun outlet.

What can I expect from VARSITY READER?

VARSITY READER will always be free! I release three different editions each week:

• The OG (VARSITY READER!)

  • A roundup of five great articles not shared on any other platform, a career tip of the week, and one damn good buy (a clothing item I can’t live without and why it’s such a must). TLDR: Be well-read, amp up your career, and build a quality, affordable wardrobe along the way.

• The weekly r.e.p.o.r.t c.a.r.d.

  • A weekly goody bag of what I’m reading, eating, playing, obsessing over, recommending, and treating myself to. Originally inspired by a TikTok trend, I decided to go even deeper and add what (and who) I’m cutting out, admiring, referring, and daring to do.

• Marketing mania

  • As a content creator and brand strategist, marketing is my lifeblood. I see a ton of smart marketing every day. But the bad drowns out the good.

    In this offshoot, I break down the good and the bad of marketing every single week. Content that caught my eye. Campaigns that should have never left the boardroom. And hopefully, some learnings for you along the way.
